Learning to code

My Journey in Learning to Code

I have always been deeply fascinated by technology and its potential to increase efficiency and productivity. Throughout my time at JPMorgan, I have consistently sought technological solutions to improve both my work environment as well as my personal life.

My first technical project was during my final year at university. It involved introducing computer models to better understand the electrical properties of nerves. In the early 1990s, computers were still in their infancy, and few medical scientists were using them.My project aimed to develop differential equations capable of simulating a nerve pulse and predicting how various drugs, known for their effects on ion-gates, would impact the nerve. Essentially, it was an early demonstration of computer modeling to forecast biological outcomes, which is common now. In my case, the objective was to determine the optimal dosage and frequency of a specific drug to restore proper nerve function, such as in the case of a diseased heart cell. Although computationally trivial by today's standards, the concept was groundbreaking at the time and fascinating for me.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, I dedicated myself to significantly enhancing my coding skills during the lockdown. I committed to one-on-one coding lessons, and since leaving JPMorgan this is my main activity, and I code with my instructor 4-5hours a day, I have founded my own IT company and have about a dozen active projects pending, ranging for automating legal processes, a booking site ‘bot’ and an application to manage LinkedIn connections for recruiters.
